Privacy policy
Last updated: October 30, 2026
In short
- Your memories (photos, videos, audio, files, notes, tags, places, reminders, checklists and transcripts) are stored on your phone only. RecallCam has no account and no server, and we never receive them.
- A few services receive limited information so that features work: map tiles (OpenFreeMap), place names (your phone's geocoder, Google on Android), purchases (Google Play) and, in the free version, ads (Google AdMob). None of them receives your memories.
- We do not use analytics, crash reporting or tracking of our own.
Who we are
RecallCam is published by CM Creations, in Quebec, Canada ("we"). The person in charge of the protection of personal information at CM Creations can be reached at support@cmcreations.app.
What stays on your phone
Everything you save in RecallCam is kept in the app's private storage on your phone: photos, videos, audio recordings, files, titles, notes, tags, captions, collections, locations and place names, reminders, checklists, photo markup and audio transcripts.
- Private memories (RecallCam Pro) are encrypted on the phone with a key protected by Android's Keystore, and unlock with your fingerprint or your RecallCam PIN or passphrase. Neither the PIN nor the key leaves the phone.
- Audio transcription (RecallCam Pro) runs on the phone with a speech model included in the app. Your recordings are not sent anywhere to be transcribed.
- Android's own backup and phone-to-phone transfer are turned off for RecallCam, so your memories are not copied to Google's backup service.
- Deleting: deleted memories stay in Recently deleted for 30 days, then they and their files are erased. Uninstalling RecallCam, or clearing its storage, erases everything it stored.
A memory leaves the phone only when you choose it: when you share it or open one of its files with another app, when you turn on the copy of photos and videos to the phone's gallery (those copies are then handled by your gallery and its own backup settings), or when you export a backup.
What leaves your phone, and who receives it
Map tiles: OpenFreeMap
The map, the location picker and a memory's small map download map images (tiles) from OpenFreeMap, which uses OpenStreetMap data. Like any internet request, the request includes your IP address and the area of the map being shown. No memory content is sent.
Place names: your phone's geocoder
When a location is set on a memory (from the GPS, a photo or the map), RecallCam asks your phone's built-in geocoder for the place name. On Android, the geocoder is provided by Google, which receives the coordinates of that location. This is used only to show the place name; RecallCam does not send the coordinates anywhere else. Google's handling is described in the Google Privacy Policy.
Document scanning: Google ML Kit
The document scanner is provided by Google Play services (ML Kit) and works on the phone: your scanned pages are not sent to Google. Like other Google Play services features, ML Kit may contact Google to download updates and may send Google technical information about how the scanner performs and is used, without the scanned content.
Purchases: Google Play
Remove ads and RecallCam Pro are bought through Google Play. Google processes the payment; we never receive your payment details. The app receives from Google Play which products you own, so that it can unlock them, and keeps that on the phone.
Ads in the free version: Google AdMob
The free version shows a banner provided by Google AdMob. To show ads, measure them and prevent fraud, Google receives information from your phone such as the advertising ID, the IP address (and the approximate location it reveals), device and app information, interactions with ads and diagnostic data. Google never receives your memories. Once you buy Remove ads or RecallCam Pro, the ads are not loaded anymore.
- Where the law requires it (for example in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and some US states), Google's consent form asks whether ads may be personalized. You can change your choice at any time in Settings › Ad choices.
- You can reset or delete your advertising ID in your phone's settings (Settings › Privacy › Ads, or Google › Ads, depending on the phone).
- Learn more in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
Backups
A backup is a file that RecallCam creates on the phone when you ask for it. You choose where it goes through Android's share or save screens (for example Google Drive, OneDrive, email or a folder); that service then handles it under its own terms. Private memories in a backup are encrypted with the backup password you choose. We never receive your backups.
This website
This website uses no cookies and no analytics. It is hosted by Microsoft Azure, which processes IP addresses to deliver the pages and protect the service.
Permissions
RecallCam asks for each permission only when you use the feature that needs it, and works without it otherwise.
- Microphone: to record audio memories.
- Location: to add where a memory was saved, while you use the app, when you ask for it or when you turn on automatic location in Settings (off by default).
- Notifications: for your reminders and the backup reminder, scheduled on the phone.
- Fingerprint: to unlock private memories; handled by Android, RecallCam never receives your fingerprint.
- Photos are taken with your phone's camera app, and photos and files are chosen with Android's pickers, so RecallCam sees only what you pick.
What we collect
Nothing through the app: no account, no analytics, no crash reports, no advertising profile of our own. If you write to us, we use your email address and message only to answer you, and delete them once they are no longer needed for that purpose.
Children
RecallCam is intended for people aged 13 and over and is not directed to children under 13.
Information processed outside Quebec
The services named above (Google, OpenFreeMap, Microsoft Azure) may process the information they receive outside Quebec and Canada, including in the United States, under their own privacy policies.
Your rights
Under Quebec's Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector, Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and, for people in Europe, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you may ask to access or correct personal information about you, have it deleted, withdraw your consent and, where it applies, receive it in a portable format. Since we hold no information from the app, your memories are under your control on your phone; for information received by Google, use Google's tools (Settings › Ad choices, your advertising ID, your Google account). For any request or question, write to support@cmcreations.app; we answer within 30 days.
You may also file a complaint with the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or, in Europe, your data protection authority.
Security
Your memories stay in the app's private storage, which other apps cannot read, and private memories are encrypted. Keep your phone locked and your backup files and passwords safe: a forgotten RecallCam PIN without a fingerprint, or a lost backup password, cannot be recovered by us.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version is published on this page with its date. Important changes will also be announced in the app or its Google Play listing before they apply.
